Would you like to go on a holiday in the Achterhoek? You will discover that there is plenty of fun for the entire family. For example, there are seven different climbing routes in Klimbos Achterhoek. Climbing between the trees is great. You will be attached to a climbing rope, therefore you as a parent can enjoy it with peace at mind. If you do not want to climb with the children too! Each climbing route has a different height and level of difficulty. At the Junior Forest, children from the age of 7 can participate in climbing. The so called ‘’Klauterroute’’ is even suitable for toddlers and children with special talents. If this does not prove to be challenging, there are routes as high as 16 metres. Maybe the routes are so difficult, that only the parents who are not afraid of heights dare to climb them. If you like climbing, whizzing and bungee jumping in the woods, Klimbos Achterhoek is the place to be.
If you are not enthusiastic about the climbing route, maybe the Cactus Oasis Adventure Park is something for you. Did you know that there are thousands of species of cacti? You can find them here in all kinds, colours, shapes and sizes! For the little ones, there is a cactus pyramid, a puzzle route and a children's garden. There is a wild west theme model railway that would appeal to the dads.
Whether you cycle or walk in the Achterhoek, you will fall for one surprise to another. From the coulisse landscape, with beautiful views that are surrounded by hedgerows, you walk through forests and charming villages. At one point, you will cycle past meadows and castles. Those who think that Drenthe is the best place to cycle will be positively surprised that the Achterhoek has been declared the best cycling area in the Netherlands! This is due to the variety that is characteristic for this region. The well-maintained cycle paths allow you to discover the versatility of this province very easily. The challenging mountain landscape is also very suitable for the sporty cyclist, such as cyclists and mountain bikers. The recreational cyclist or walker can find all kinds of attractive Achterhoekse routes on the internet.
Lastly, there are also two Hanseatic cities in the Achterhoek, which were the trading centres of the Netherlands. They are now cosy historic cities, that are worth a visit. See the old streets and squares with cobbled pathways or explore the cities on foot. You could also take a horse-drawn carriage tour. In the mustard city of Doesburg you can enjoy a delicious mustard soup. In the tower city of Zutphen, you might believe you are back in the middle ages. Therefore, culture lovers can also do plenty in the Achterhoek!
Because there is so much to do in the Achterhoek, a good night's rest is important. Only then you can enjoy your day to the fullest. Luckily, Vodatent is the place to be! If you are not bound by the school holiday schedule, you will discover that the Achterhoek is perhaps at its best in late summer. The trees turn yellow and red and it is a Burgundian pleasure here. You can learn everything about the wines in the dozens of vineyards. Learn how they are made, and especially how you drink them. Beer lovers can experience their passion and taste a special beer in one of the small breweries.
While we are on the subject of Burgundian enjoyment, there are many companies in the Achterhoek that make their own cheese, fruit, meat, bread or traditional made ice cream. The local products can be bought everywhere in small shops or stalls along the way. In short, even the connoisseur is in the Achterhoek at the right place.
